Milbrandt Vineyards Traditions 2006 Pinot Gris, Washington State
Pinot Gris is grown in many locales and known by many names. The Germans call it Rulander or Grauer Burgunder. In Alsace it's known as Tokay d'Alsace. The Italians refer to it as Pinot Grigio. Whatever its AKA, Pinot Gris has a unique lineage. The grape is actually a naturally-occurring, genetic mutation of Pinot Noir. It was first isolated in Burgundy back in the Middle Ages and later exported throughout much of Europe. Today it is heartily embraced by vintners in Washington, Oregon, California and New Zealand.
Our Evergreen Vineyard consistently produces a delicious and distinctive Pinot Gris. This 2006, with its fresh honeysuckle and white peach aromatics, is typical of the site. The palate combines the hallmark pear and citrus character of the variety with the crisp structure and underlying mineral character of our soils.
